Sitia Airport News :: Schiphol Direct Flights Summer 2012

Sitia Airport News :: Schiphol Direct Flights Summer 2012

For Brit ex-pats living in Eastern Crete, travel to places such as Sitia, Makrigialos and Ierapetra in Lassithi travel will get a little bit easier in the Summer of 2012. There will be an alternative to taking flights to Heraklion or Chania from UK to get to Lassithi. But, it will need a trip that goes via Holland.

Dutch charter airline ArkeFly, will fly twice a week directly between Amsterdam Schiphol and Sitia Airport using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. ArkeFly will run the charter flights on Thursdays and Sundays between April 26 and October 18, 2012. Fares are not cheap but it's a move in the right direction for Eastern Crete tourism and visitors wanting an easier journey to that end of the island.

Arkefly TUI already fly charter flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and Heraklion.

ArkeFly can be found at http://www.arkefly.nl/ (you'll need to use online translation for English as the web pages are in Dutch).

Getting to Sitia Airport currently is via flights through Athens (Aegean Air) or Heraklion (Sky Express) so it is good news to know that Sitia Airport will have these new Arkefly direct services from Northern Europe in the Summer 2012.
